A ReFood Community is an alliance of local food systems actors who agree on adopting circular and regenerative principles and practices in a short and transparent supply chain to fulfil economic, environmental, and socio-cultural aims and collaborate to enhance production, nutrition, jobs, and well-being for people and the planet.
Our vision which looks to 2030, focuses on creating a worldwide network of ReFood Communities which are self-reliant, connected local entities that promote sustainable and circular practices, social inclusion, and human and environmental regeneration. The network consists of an innovative digital platform to exchange experiences, knowledge and food; A truly sustainable parallel market.
The ReFood Community is a self-sufficient local entity for essential services to life that pushes for sustainable practices, social inclusion, human and environmental regeneration. In essence, each ReFood Community is a producer and a purchasing community, forming a large solidarity purchasing group.
In our vision, by 2030, every ReFood Community in the world will produce foods capable of giving an account of their nutritional, social and environmental content through specific sustainability indicators.
Our sustainability indicators are in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our objectives are in alignment with 9 SDGs.
Our vision goes beyond today's organic certification; it is considered a holistic, measurable and traceable certification from the ground to the plate, thanks to the advancement of technology and greater cooperation of local communities through participatory certification mechanisms.
Holistic Certification builds on principles of progressive improvement through practices that improve food quality and sustainability.
Thanks to advances in food traceability and holistic certification, REsponsible producers will gain REcognition and REwards (premium) for their efforts.
Consumers can REdirect their consumption towards local, holistic and sustainable productions, thus triggering a virtuous circle that will allow small communities to thrive and be resilient.
Self-reliance for essential services (food, water, energy, health) in territories defined by human communities and ecological systems.
